Privacy Policy

CityNote (the "App") is provided by an individual developer (the "Operator"). It lets you leave short notes at real places for people who visit them, or for members of your group. This policy explains what information the Operator collects and how it is handled.

1. Operator

2. Information we collect

• Location: Your device's location (GPS, etc.) while the App is in use, to post, view, and watch notes. We do not collect location continuously in the background.
• Anonymous ID: No registration (name, email address, etc.) is required. Posts are managed with an identifier created by anonymous sign-in. We do not collect your name, phone number, or email address.
• Posts: The text, location, optional display name or pen name, and audience of the notes you post. Public notes can be found by anyone on the map, Group notes by members of the same group, and Only me notes only by you.
• Groups: If you create or join a group, its name, color, membership (members' anonymous IDs and join dates), and invite codes.
• Watches: The location, name, and notification settings of places you add to your Watch list, used to show and notify you of new notes nearby.
• Live drafts: While you type a Public note, the text is shown in real time to nearby users. It is not stored on the server and disappears shortly after you stop typing.
• Notification tokens: Your device's push token (FCM/APNs). You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
• Usage and crash data: How features are used and crash reports, linked to your anonymous ID, to improve quality. This does not include personal information such as your name or raw coordinates.
• Reports: When you report a note, we record the note, the reason, and your anonymous ID. Each report emails the note's text, location, the reason, and the author's anonymous ID to the Operator so it can be reviewed.
• Consent record: The date and time you agreed to the Terms of Use and this policy, and the version you agreed to, linked to your anonymous ID.
• Blocks: The anonymous IDs of users you block. Blocks are not reported to the Operator.

3. How we use information

• To provide the App's features, including posting and viewing notes, sharing with groups, and notifying you of new notes at watched places
• To send push notifications
• To handle inappropriate content (automatic prohibited-word filtering, reviewing reports, removing notes, suspending posting) and violations of the Terms
• To investigate bugs and improve quality

4. Third-party services

• Supabase (database, authentication, and real-time delivery; data stored in the Tokyo region)
• Firebase (Google LLC: Analytics, Crashlytics, and Cloud Messaging for Android push notifications)
• Apple Push Notification service (push notifications on iOS)
• Resend (sends report and feedback emails to the Operator)
• Google Maps SDK (maps on Android)
• Apple Maps (MapKit) (maps on iOS; Apple's privacy policy applies)
• MapLibre / OpenFreeMap (3D map; tile requests for the visible area are sent to tiles.openfreemap.org)

The privacy policies of these services also apply.

5. Retention and deletion

• You can delete your own notes in the App at any time.
• The Operator reviews reported notes within 24 hours and removes those that violate the Terms. Removed notes are kept as a moderation record.
• If you uninstall the App, the link to your anonymous ID is lost (a new anonymous ID is issued on reinstall).
• You can leave a group or remove a watch at any time. If the creator of a group leaves, the group is deleted.
• You can delete your account at any time under My page → Other → Delete account. This permanently deletes your notes, photos, groups you created, memberships, watches, invite codes, notification tokens, and stored copies of your deleted or expired notes.

6. Age

The App is intended for people aged 13 and over.

7. Child Safety Standards

The App has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Content involving CSAE, anything inappropriate toward minors, sexual or violent content, sharing personal information without permission, and harassment are prohibited by the Terms. Every note can be reported; reports are emailed to the Operator and reviewed within 24 hours, and suspected CSAE is removed immediately with top priority. Users who violate the Terms are suspended from posting. When CSAE is found, the Operator removes it promptly and, where appropriate, reports it to law enforcement and to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) or other relevant hotlines.
